Parlor Room, the department of photography and the department of Visual and Critical Studies welcomes Ariella Azoulay to SAIC for a lecture about her new book 'Potential History: Unlearning Imperialism'.
 
 
Azoulay is an author, art curator, filmmaker, and theorist of photography and visual culture. She is a professor of Modern Culture and Media and the Department of Comparative Literature at Brown University.
 
 
We are pleased to present this evening lecture for our students, faculty, staff and the general public.

Mark Steinmetz has spent his career, beginning in the mid-1980s, relying on chance events to capture his photographs. Working in series, his intimate black and white photographs cover such subjects as children and teenagers, small southeastern American towns, street scenes in Paris, and various Italian cities.

Adjunct Professor Tatsu Aoki (BFA 1983, MFA 1985, Film, Video, New Media, and Animation), Matthew Angelo Harrison (BFA 2012), Guadalupe Rosales (MFA 2016), and Martine Syms (BFA 2007) were among the recipients of the United States Artists  (USA) 2020 Fellowship Award, which grants up to $50,000 in unrestricted funds to artists.

This series of artist talks given by our second-year graduate students takes place during Critique Week and offers an opportunity to gain insight into the individual artistic production of each student.

This year is of special significance for the department as it celebrates the 25th anniversary of The James Weinstein Memorial Fellowship! The James Weinstein Memorial Fund for Photographic Artists at the School of the Art Institute was established in 1994 by the family and friends of James Weinstein to honor the accomplished and esteemed photographic artist.
