Letter from the Editor

Greetings SAIC Grad Students!

My name is Mallory Somera and I’m your Grad Journal editor for the 2017-2018 school year.

I'm one of four second-year New Arts Journalism students and moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area just last August. I love going to see live music and I host and produce “Take This Journey” on Free Radio SAIC here on campus every Tuesday evening.

Grad school can be such a whirlwind, and sometimes we get caught up in the flurry of projects, readings, papers, and theses, on top of all the studio hours. One of the coolest things about going to SAIC, however, is that we are not only studying and creating at the most influential art school in the country, we have the opportunity to do that in an exceptionally imaginative city.

Now that we've settled well into the Fall semester and look forward to the chill of the winter, I'd like to ask you this: What excites you? And what excites you about the work that you and your colleagues are accomplishing here at SAIC?

I’m thrilled to listen to your stories, hear what you have to say about art, grad life, living in Chicago, and about your work! Whether you’ve got a writing idea or an existing piece, do not hesitate to reach out. If you have ideas for cross-disciplinary public conversations, we want to be your forum. Keep an eye out for some fun, new content here. We’ve got some things cookin’.

Feel free to reach out at msomera@saic.edu

I hope to hear from you soon.
