Personal Items to Bring for Move-In

Of course you can't bring everything you have at home to your room on campus. You'll have to pick and choose what you need the most. We encourage you to focus on what you really need and avoid over packing. Keep in mind you will have to move all your items in an 1-hour time window. Here are some suggestions:

You will need:

  • Kitchen items: pots, pans, measuring cups, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, silverware, etc. (toaster ovens are allowed, instapots are not)
  • Hangers
  • Pillows, sheets, blankets, mattress pad
  • Academic supplies
  • Art supplies
  • Toiletries: soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, towels, etc.

You might also want to bring:

  • Alarm clock
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Desk lamp and/or table lamp (no halogen lamps are allowed)
  • Thermometer to take your temperature and first aid supplies (Band-Aids®, gauze, aspirin)
  • Laundry basket or bag
  • Storage containers for food
  • Ethernet Cord (wireless is provided)

Do not bring:

  • Shower curtain (most rooms have shower doors. If not, a curtain is provided)
  • Instapot or pressure cookers
  • Halogen lights of any kind
  • Air conditioners or space heaters
  • Candles or incense
  • Firearms, fireworks, or other explosives
  • Pets (other than fish)
  • Hookahs
  • Wireless Internet routers
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Mattresses

What is provided in my room?

Jones Hall and 162 North State Street Residence rooms have:

  • Private kitchenette (9-cubic-foot refrigerator, built-in microwave, 2-burner stove, cabinet space, and sink)
  • Private bathroom (mirrors, sink with cabinets, toilet, shower with doors or curtains provided)
  • Drafting table(s)
  • Desk chair(s)
  • Heating and cooling unit
  • Window blinds
  • Closet space with closet organizer (most rooms have a built in closet per resident; some have a free standing armoire
  • 2 Trash cans and 1 recycling bin
  • Beds on the floor will be extra-long twins; lofted beds will have double-sized mattresses*

* Please note that in the "08" room on all Jones Hall floors, both beds are lofted and both beds are extra-long twins.

Buckingham rooms have:

  • Private kitchen (refrigerator, built-in microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, cabinet space, and sink)
  • Private bathroom(s) (mirrors, sink with cabinets, toilet, shower with showercurtains provided)
  • In unit washer/dryer combo
  • Couch/Loveseat
  • Shared table & chairs
  • Desk (s)
  • Desk chair(s)
  • Heating and cooling unit
  • Window coverings
  • Wardrobe
  • 2 Trash cans 1 recycling bin
  • Twin XL bed
