Professor and Author Sara Levine Profiled in Publishers Weekly
School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Professor Sara Levine is featured in Publishers Weekly for her forthcoming novel The Hitch, out with Roxane Gay Books in January 2026. Known for her “impish rebellious streak” and sharp, self-aware humor, Levine turns the conventions of possession horror inside out in this tragicomic story of a woman who believes her nephew has been overtaken by a dog’s spirit. Blending academic rigor with irreverent play, she describes writing as “chasing something deep and sincere through the forest of jokes.” Levine, who teaches in SAIC’s Writing department, has long explored flawed female protagonists and feminist reinterpretations of genre, earning praise from Roxane Gay, who cited her debut Treasure Island!!! in Bad Feminist. With The Hitch, Levine again finds comedy in control, chaos, and the search for connection.
