Alum Expands Her Feminist Clothing Platform
Amanda Brinkman (MA 2010), a graduate of the School’s Visual and Critical Studies department and co-founder of art nonprofit Pelican Bomb, received widespread recognition when she created T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “Nasty Woman,” in the wake of the October presidential debate. Demand for the shirts was immense—and swift—with nearly 10,000 orders placed overnight, and celebrities like Katy Perry and Will Ferrell since counted among her customers. Now, Brinkman has successfully raised over $130,000 for Planned Parenthood through proceeds from the shirt and has set her sights on building a platform to showcase other feminist clothing designers. Her website, Google Ghost, original home of the “Nasty Woman” T-shirt, is now host to a collection of vendors focused on creating ethically-made apparel with a feminist ethos.
