Bio

Teaching at SAIC is an amazing opportunity to work with bright and engaging students. My course, Ecologies of Contested Spaces, allows students to consider the historical, institutional, and social processes that shape a community. I am so grateful to work with members of the incredible North Lawndale community. When I am not teaching at SAIC, I am teaching high school social studies at the Chicago Academy for the Arts, working on completing a Ph.D. in Political Science at UIC, and most importantly being a mother to my very energetic and funny little girl.

Description

Amid global environmental and political turmoil and local grassroots activism, we will traverse regenerative urban spaces with different organizational frameworks and ideas about what it means to be with others and what it means to include the non-human. This course explores these new modes of being, with fellow humans and among other species and things, in a changing world. The course is structured around critical readings, as well as community-based projects in North Lawndale.

This course generally meets at Homan Square 5-6 times a term.
