Bio

David Diaz (he/him) is an accomplished fashion industry professional specializing in product development with over a decade of experience driving global apparel innovation across men’s, women’s, and children’s categories. Known for blending creative vision with commercial strategy, he has led cross-functional teams, optimized sourcing and costing, and delivered high-impact collections for brands including Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Reebok, and Donna Karan. David specializes in PLM systems, margin optimization, and end-to-end product lifecycle management. He holds an Associates degree in Fashion Design from NCC, a Bachelors degree in Apparel: Production Management from FIT and an International Master’s in Fashion Management from the Rome Business School.

Personal Statement

As an instructor, my teaching philosophy centers on blending creative exploration with practical, industry-ready skills. I believe students thrive when they are encouraged to experiment, ask questions, and approach challenges from multiple angles—while also understanding the operational and strategic considerations that shape design and product. My goal is to equip emerging professionals with the confidence, adaptability, and the insight needed to succeed in the modern fashion landscape.

Description

Through handwork and machine stitching, this course will cover various traditional and experimental techniques for fabric embellishment and manipulation. Explore technical processes like embroidery, cording, appliqué, trapunto, pleating, tucking, smocking, gathering, darting, and ribbon work. This course will reference historical and contemporary examples of these processes as research for inspiration. Students will create a sample book of foundation techniques and experiments and produce a final design project.

Note: A sewing machine is required if taking this course online.
