Summer 2026 Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Lecturer Carla Bruni co-wrote Chicago Homes: A Portrait of the City's Everyday Architecture. The book has been recognized by the Independent Press Award, the Midwest Independent Publishing Association, and the Independent Book Publishers Association, and featured in outlets ranging from Architectural Digest and The Wall Street Journal to WTTW, Block Club Chicago, and WGN-TV. She also received the Preservation Advocacy Award from the 2026 Chicago Preservation Excellence Awards at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Lecturer Fred Camper’s film Suicide Note (1976–84) will be presented in two theaters at the Lincoln Center as part of the New York Film Festival this October. Camper will speak at the first two screenings. The film will also be shown at the Film Studies Center at the University of Chicago on November 20.

Associate Professor, Adj. C. C. Ann Chen was featured in the show Parallel Visions at Tiger Strikes Asteroid Chicago, which features work by the artist-run space TSA CHI’s newest members.

Lecturer Richard Friedman was appointed to the Advisory Board of National Preservation Lawyers Network.

Assistant Professor Dan Miller exhibited his artwork Flexion in the exhibition Who Cares for the Cyborg at Inter/Access in Toronto, Canada. Flexion is an interactive robotic organism where stretch sensors drive a web-like network of air actuated artificial muscles.

Professor David Raskin attended the Disquiet International Literary Program in Lisbon, Portugal, which brings writers from around the world together with Portuguese writers for intensive workshops in the art and craft of writing.

Lecturer Yasmin Spiro was featured in the Campus column of Fiber Art Now, connected to her lecturing role in the Fiber and Material Studies program.

Professor Mechtild Widrich co-wrote the article “Gift Horses: Hans Haacke, Ivan Meštrović, and Public Art in Chicago” in the Oxford Art Journal. 

Director of Communications Rowan Beaird's sophomore novel, Tenderness, was published by Flatiron Books. The novel was spotlighted in People, Elle, Chicago Tribune, Cosmopolitan, and other publications.
