Statement by President Tenny on Las Vegas Tragedy

Dear SAIC Community,

The news of last night’s shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, has left us shaken with grief. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the victims, their families and friends, and the city of Las Vegas.

Irrational acts of violence, especially this occurrence at a cultural event, are difficult to fathom. The self-expression, intellectual debate, and reasoned inquiry that are our values are anathema to violence. As we struggle to overcome feelings of despair, let us be fortified by our innate love of humanity; our generative role as artists, designers, and scholars; and our belief in the power of art to unite, repair, and heal.
