November 2025: Faculty and Staff Accomplishments
Lecturer Bri Beck’s exhibition [From-Within] is on view at the Center for Mad Culture at University of Illinois Chicago. She gave a virtual talk in connection with the exhibition on November 17.
Lecturer Markus Dohner recently designed an exhibition for Hamburg, Germany's city hall on the topic of Baltic University in Germany after the war years. He also designed the Johny Cash: Prison Concerts exhibition, held in the Momentum space at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Continuing Studies Instructor Jenny Halpern is one of the featured artists in the exhibition Not a Soft Thing, on view at the Chicago Cultural Center through March 2026. The show gathers 15 artists to challenge the assumptions of motherhood and explore the bonds between parenthood and art-making.
Associate Professor Marie Herwald Hermann had work featured in the Cheongju Craft Biennale, and two of her sculptural pieces were acquired for the Art Institute of Chicago’s permanent collection.
Professor Eduardo Kac’s Adsum backup is scheduled to land on the Lunar South Pole aboard the Griffin Lunar Lander in July 2026. He has new exhibitions and work featured at the Tate Britain, London; New Art Foundation, Spain; and Friche Belle-de-Mai, Marseille. His book Telepresence & Bio Art was just released in Chinese.
Manager of Art and Technology Facilities: AV and Computing Alan Perry is featured in Cloud-as-Ouroboros: The Post-Digital Infinite Scroll, an online exhibition on view through March 31 as part of The Wrong Biennale, the world's largest and longest-running digital art biennial. Several SAIC alums are also featured.
Assistant Professor and Low-res MFA Director Aliza Shvarts’s work "Dark Play" was featured in the Hyperallergic review of the group exhibition soft weapons: Keep Your Fucking Hands Off My Body. In November, she took part in the conversation “Boundaries/Borders” with Irish artist Elaine Byrne. On December 3, Shvarts will lead The Unforgettables Reading/Working Group through A.I.R. Gallery.
Lecturer Michele Y. Washington is the 2025 recipient of the AIGA Steven Heller Cultural Commentary Award.
Associate Professor Jade Yumang was featured in Textiles x Art: How Textiles are Shaping Contemporary Art.
