Alum Yvette Mayorga (MFA 2016) was recently spotlighted in Women’s Wear Daily. The article covers Mayorga’s painting and sculpture practice, how her family influences her desire to create, and the themes of girlhood, freedom, and immigration within her work. “What is painful is what didn’t continue after migration, the craft histories that are deeply rooted in my family,” Mayorga shared. “I’m really interested in bringing this imagined legacy in my work, to claim our lineage and craft, as being that I come from a line of artists that never call themselves that.”

Mayorga’s first solo show, Yvette Mayorga: What a Time to Be is on view at The Momentary in Bentonville, Arkansas through May 12, 2023. Additionally, Mayorga is currently working on a piece for O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 5 art project along with several other SAIC community members.
