Alum Wafaa Bilal's Solo Show Makes End-of-Year Lists

Alum Wafaa Bilal’s (MFA 2003) solo show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA), Wafaa Bilal: Indulge Me, was recently recognized by ARTnews, which named Bilal as the Established Artist of the Year, and selected by Artforum as one of the top 10 exhibitions of 2025. The MCA exhibition was the first major survey of Bilal’s work, spanning performance, sculpture, and online and interactive technologies.

In addition, several of Bilal’s past projects have received recent recognition. Domestic Tension, created in 2007, was selected by ARTnews as one of the defining works of the year 2025, and The Virtual Jihadi was included by The Art Newspaper among the “100 Best Works of the First Quarter of the 21st Century.”
