Alum Viraj Khanna Featured in New York Times for Show on Indian Weddings

School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Viraj Khanna (MFA 2025) was recently profiled in the New York Times for his debut solo exhibition, Why Did I Say Yes?, now on view at Rajiv Menon Contemporary in Los Angeles. The show uses maximalist embroidery and textiles to offer a satirical yet reverent look at the spectacle of Indian weddings. Drawing on his upbringing in India’s fashion elite, Khanna collaborated with 30 West Bengali artisans to create intricate works critiquing excess and social anxiety in wedding culture. While obtaining his master of fine arts, Khanna produced the show, which runs through August 30 and marks a significant milestone in Khanna’s artistic practice.
