School of the Art Institute of Chicago alum Nyugen E. Smith (MFA 2017) has completed his latest exhibition, Ancient Future Memory, which is currently on display at CulturalDC in Washington, DC. The mixed media installation and sculptures were inspired by ritual objects made by the Luba people who inhabit the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Ancient Future Memory features, among other things, “Bundlehouses”—mixed media sculptures that first brought Smith international acclaim.

The Guardian reported on the exhibit, praising Smith’s work. “The intricacy of his work in Ancient Future Memory is reflective of how he builds his artistic practice through various different forms of artistic expression,” the article stated.

The exhibition will be up through March 12.
