Alum Gina Beavers Receives Creative Capital Award

Creative Capital Foundation recently announced School of the Art Insitute if Chicago alum Gina Beavers (MFA 2000) as a recipient of the 2026 Creative Capital Award in visual art. Beavers explores pop culture, social media, memes, and more through her drawings, paintings, installations, prints and sculptures—often inspired directly from screengrabs curated from the internet.

These annual awards “fund the creation of experimental, risk-taking projects that push boundaries formally and thematically,” offering those awarded with varying grant amounts up to $50,000. The funding is unrestricted in its use, as to allow grantees to spend it in any way they see fit to advance their projects.
