Allison Wade (MFA 2012), Ben Foch (SAIC 2000), Gary Lapointe (MFA 2016), and Josh Reames (MFA 2010) were featured in Tumbled Rhyme, a group show at LVL3 gallery in Chicago in celebration of its 15th anniversary.

Justin Greene (BFA 2007), Mika Horibuchi (BFA 2013), Richard Hunt (BA 1957, HON 1979), Sterling Ruby (BFA 2002), and William O'Brien (MFA 2005) were part of a group exhibition Fringe Figure at Andrew Rafacz Gallery in Chicago.

Edra Soto (MFA 2000), Phyllis Bramson (MFA 1974), and Sharon Louden (BFA 1988) were part of a group exhibition titled Ikigai: A Journey of Purpose at ENGAGE Projects in Chicago.

Laure Newlon (MFA 2013), Amy Pleasant (BFA 1994), and Sheree Hovsepian (MFA 2002) were featured in Synchronicities: Intersecting Figuration with Abstraction at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska.

José Villalobos (MA 2015), Kay Francis (BFA 2006), Ryan Nault (BFA 2014), Andrew Roberts (BFA 2009), Isabella Mellado (MFA 2023), and Dannielle Tegeder (MFA 1997) had work featured at fairs during Mexico City Art Week.

Erika Allen (BFA 1992) and Sonja Henderson (BFA 1992) were featured in the group exhibition titled litany at SouthSide Community Center in partnership with Blanc Gallery in Chicago. The show was curated by jada-amina (BFA 2020).

B. Ingrid Olson (BFA 2010) and Isabelle Frances McGuire (BFA 2016) are the 2025 Chicago Artadia Award winners.

Wafaa Bilal (MFA 2003) discussed his first major survey, Wafaa Bilal: Indulge Me, with curator Bana Kattan (MA 2011) during their Visiting Artist Program lecture.  

Tyler English (BFA 2018), Muskaan Dhingra (BFA 2024), Mint Liu (BFA 2022), Jazlyn Ochoa (BFA 2024), Jazmin Martinez (BFA 2024), and Dave Ćwiok (BFA 2023), with current SAIC students and faculty, created printed posters and artists statements for the Newberry Library's exhibition, Making an Impression: Immigrant Printing in Chicago.

Jisu Kwak (BFA 2018) and Inah Choe (BFA 2013) were featured in the group exhibition Flüchtige Besetzung at MAXI.kunst gallery in Nuremberg, Germany.

Alice Tippit (BFA 2009, MFA 2013), Rabha Ashry (MFA 2018), Annette Elliot (MFA 2012), Beatriz Guzman Velasquez (MFA 2018), Riva Lehrer (BFA 1997), and Isabelle Frances McGuire (BFA 2016) were artist and writing residents at the Ragdale Residency in Lake Forest, Illinois.

James Stewart III (MFA 2018), Emil Ferris (BFA 2008), Justin Howard Rosier (MFA 2018), Cynthia Pelayo (MFA 2011), Paul Sacaridiz (MFA 1998), Samantha Hoffman (BFA 2021), and Daniel Borzutzky (MFA 2000) were selected as honorees on the Newcity 2025 Lit 50 list, an article highlighting the most impactful voices in Chicago’s literary landscape. B. Metzger Sampson (MFA 2009), Lindsay Hunter (MFA 2008), Audrey Niffenegger (BFA 1985), Jeffrey Brown (MFA 2002), H. Melt (MFA 2014), and Chris Ware (SAIC 1995, HON 2019) were featured in the Hall of Fame section.

2020s

Lindsay Adams (MFA 2025) had two solo exhibitions this year: Keep Your Wonder Moving at Sean Kelly Gallery in Los Angeles and All water has perfect memory at PATRON Gallery in Chicago. Her work was also exhibited by Sean Kelly Gallery at Frieze LA. Her painting Weary Blues (2024) will be translated onto silkscreen panels on fabric and hung in the cafe area of the Obama Center, set to open in early 2026.

Viraj Khanna (MFA 2025) had a solo show titled Why Did I Say Yes? at Rajiv Menon Contemporary in Los Angeles. The exhibition was covered by the New York Times in their article, "This Artist Has Big Feelings About Indian Weddings." 

Satchel Lee (MFA 2024) had work featured in an exhibition titled Body & Soul at Cierra Britton Gallery in New York. Her series from the show, X-pression, was highlighted in Black-Owned Galleries Now, an online showcase spotlighting more than 50 Black gallerists and Black artists. Cierra Britton Gallery also selected her work to be part of a two-person exhibition for their booth at Photo London.

Fawn Penn (BFA 2020) had a solo show titled Remedy for the Relief of Human Suffering at VSG Contemporary in Chicago.

Mac Pierce (MFA 2023) held a solo show titled Death Match at Bert Green Fine Art in Chicago.

Eia Radosavljevic (BFA 2017, MFA 2023) was commissioned to create a facsimile of a late 19th-century hat for Gustave Caillebotte: Painting His World on display at the Art Institute of Chicago until October 2025.

Mel Ramaker (MFA 2024) published her debut romantasy novel A Song of Death.

Joy Ray (MFA 2023) was selected as a 2025 Visual Art Fellow at the Vermont Studio Center, was featured in a group exhibition at Colgate University’s Picker Art Gallery titled A Thought Is A Thread: Contemporary Artists Reworking Textile Traditions, and took part in New Art School Modality: Making New Monuments held at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

Abigail Smith (BFA 2022) had a solo show titled River at Cruise Control Contemporary Gallery in Cambria, California.

Pia Singh (MA 2020) was named the 2025 Sixty x Bemis Center Critic-in-Residence

Claire A. Warden (MFA 2024) was selected for the 2025 Penumbra Foundation Risograph Residency in New York City. 

Jonathan Worcester (MFA 2024) held a solo exhibition Dead Reckoning at 65GRAND in Chicago.

Selva Aparicio (BFA 2015) was named a 2025 Vilcek Foundation Prizewinner in Visual Arts for her sculptures and installations. She will also be the featured speaker for The Sara Albrecht Emerge Artist Talk at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago on October 21, 2025.

CJ Aslan (BFA 2018) launched their fall/winter collection in Paris earlier this year and was featured in an article on Hypebae titled There Are No Rules in ASLAN WORLD. Aslan also opened their first store in LA in February.

Cecilia Beaven (MFA 2019) presented two concurrent solo exhibitions in Chicago. Semilla explored influences of Mexican folk art and Aztec mythology at the National Museum of Mexican Art, while Flickering Cocoon at Hyde Park Art Center brought together various media to examine the spiritual and physical realms. You can also find her new murals at the Chicago History Museum.

Taylor Cleveland (BFA 2016) directed a project with Amazon Prime and MGM Studios for their new film, Heads of State. His team at TriplePlay Studios set up a video portal between New York City and London so the stars of the movie could interact with fans from across the pond.

Patti Tuomey (MA 2001) was elected to the SAIC Board of Governors.

Amanda Valdez (BFA 2007) exhibited in a two-person show at Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, titled Milk Tide.

Erik Wenzel (BFA 2003) exhibited his work in the show Tessercats at Watershed Studioworks in Chicago.

Saya Woolfalk's (MFA 2004) major retrospective exhibition, Empathic Universe at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, was featured in an article titled "Saya Woolfalk's Fantastical World of Plant-Human Hybrids" in the New York Times.

Latham Zearfoss (BFA 2009) had a solo exhibition titled Third Space at the Arts Club of Chicago.

Sanford Biggers (MFA 1999, HON 2024) was featured in several shows across the United States including Future Fossils at the MassArt Art Museum in Boston, Desert X in Coachella Valley, California, BUSTED: Contemporary Sculpture Busts at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Imagining Black Diasporas: 21st-Century Art and Poetics at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Sandra Binion (MFA 1992) released her latest artist book, Slivers of Light and Other Geometries, which accompanied her recent video project, Dans la lumière d’Harriet Backer, commissioned by the Musée D’Orsay in Paris. She also traveled to Norway to give screenings and artist talks about her work.

Michele Brody (MFA 1994) held a solo exhibition titled Arboreal Ethereal: Capturing the Entropy of Nature at the Bronx River Art Center. She also had work exhibited in Fragments: Reflections on Memory at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center in Solomons, Maryland, and took part in a group show titled Seed Bombs at the Children's Art Carnival in New York City.

Diane Christiansen (MFA 1990) presented a solo exhibition titled Love to Love You Baby at Zolla Lieberman Gallery in Chicago.

Sonya Clark's (BFA 1993, HON 2023) solo exhibition, We Are Each Other, traveled to the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Houston Museum of African American Culture. She was also featured in several group exhibitions, including Rug Life at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, and Yoruba World at the Amistad Center in Connecticut.

Gridthiya Gaweewong (MA 1996) received the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.

Amy Pleasant (BFA 1994) exhibited work in Synchronicities: Intersecting Figuration with Abstraction at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska, and in VIVID: A Fresh Take at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Mirae kh RHEE (BFA 1999) had a solo exhibition titled Constellations at the San Diego Museum of Art.

Maggie Robertson's (BFA 1997) series Big Blue Horses was featured in an article published by Sidelines Magazine.

Amanda Ross-Ho (BFA 1998) was the 2025 winner of the Marciano Art Foundation Artadia Award. She has also participated in a number of group shows, including 2025 Made in L.A. at The Hammer in Los Angeles; 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦³ in collaboration with M. LeBlanc and Goodweather at Rainbo Club in Chicago; Body Language: Recent Acquisitions in the Henry Collection at Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, Washington ; and SOFT PINK HARD LINE in collaboration with ILY2 in Portland, Oregon.

Susan Anne Russel (BFA 1996) wrote a textbook titled B.A.D. Women in the Arts.

Dmitry Samarov (BFA 1993) released an illustrated edition of Moby Dick.

DeAnna Skedel's (MFA 1997) work was installed at HOK's Kansas City studio.

Geoffrey Smith (BFA 1995) had a solo show titled Assembly at Western Exhibitions in Chicago.

Dannielle Tegeder (MFA 1997) of Hilma's Ghost was awarded a prestigious Metropolitan Transportation Authority Arts & Design commission to create Abstract Futures, a mural in New York City's Grand Central metro station. Hilma's Ghost also led an evening of performance, color magick, and ritual as part of the Guggenheim's Late Shift series with Eve Biddle. Their work was highlighted in a solo show at SECRIST | BEACH in Chicago titled Spectral Visions, and featured at Zona Maco art fair in Mexico City during Mexico City Art week.

Paul Hertz (MFA 1986) was the Edward E. Elson artist-in-residence at the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts.

Richard Klocke (MFA 1982) launched Here/AfterThe Art, a new platform which uses AI and NFT time capsules to expand collective boundaries and envision the future of art.

William Eckhardt Kohler (MFA 1987) had a solo show at 65GRAND in Chicago titled There Are Many Nows.

David Kroll (MFA 1986) had a solo exhibition titled Distant Cloud at Zolla Lieberman Gallery in Chicago.

Judy Ledgerwood's (MFA 1984) work was showcased in a two-person exhibition at GRAY Gallery's booth during Frieze New York 2025.

Beatriz Ledesma (MA 1988) published two new books: Mandalas: A Personal Journey in Mandala Journaling and From the Center.

Margot McMahon (SAIC 1981) had a solo exhibition titled Ring of Fire: Friends, Reefs at Epiphany Center for Arts in Chicago.

Deyana Mielke (BFA 1984) had work exhibited in the 13th Rome International Art Fair in Rome, Italy. Her work was also featured in Art at the Capitol in Honolulu, Hawai`i and the spring ArtScene biannual gallery walk in Rockford, Illinois, with Kith and Kiln Gallery.
Four of her pieces, Here and Now, Exist Portal.011, Boundless, Memory Dance and Aquarium, and Bouquet, were selected in juried international shows in Vancouver, Canada.

Laura Migliorino (BFA 1982) had her work integrated into an opera performed at the Stanley Arts Center in Hampton, South Carolina, titled Dream Lovers 1898. She was also featured in the group exhibition With Liberty and Care for All at the Northside Artspace Lofts in Minneapolis.

Carol Neiger (BFA 1980) participated in the North Suburban Synagogue Beth El Sisterhood’s Art Festival.

Michael Northrup (MFA 1981) published a new book titled Serious Humor.

Connie Noyes (MFA 1981) had a solo exhibition titled Dispatched at Compound Yellow gallery in Oak Park, Illinois, and participated in the group exhibition Let's be Real at Heaven Gallery in Chicago.

Dan McCormack (MFA 1970) exhibited Dan McCormack: Photograms 1984–2018 at Roost Arts in New Paltz, New York.

Christina Ramberg's (BFA 1968, MFA 1973) solo exhibition, Christina Ramberg: A Retrospective, traveled to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Julia Schmitt Healy (MFA 1972) had a solo exhibition titled Looking Back at Western Exhibitions in Chicago.

Robert Lostutter (SAIC 1962) exhibited some of his early work at Derek Eller Gallery in New York.

Ruth Aizuss Migdal's (BFA 1954) 21-foot sculpture, Star Light, was installed in Lincoln Park.

Robert Earl Paige's (SAIC 1952) solo show, Give The Drummer Some!, celebrated the Smart Museum's 50th anniversary. He also published a book about his life's work titled The United Colors of Robert Earl Paige.

David Sharpe (MFA 1968) had a solo exhibition, Going Forward; Looking Back, at Carl Hammer Gallery in Chicago.

Charles Sparks' (BFA 1968) design business, Charles Sparks + Company, has been operating since 1987 designing luxury retail interiors in the United States and internationally. He will be transitioning away from his business and focusing on drawing and painting in the future.

Eleanor Spiess-Ferris (SAIC 1962) had a solo exhibition titled Drinking the Moon at Koehnline Museum of Art in Skokie, Illinois.

Kunié Sugiura (BFA 1967) had her first American retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Art titled Photopainting. The show and Sugiura's career were highlighted in an article written in the New York Times.
