Campus Life, Residence Life, and Multicultural Affairs also offer leadership roles that allow you to meet new people, develop leadership skills, and contribute to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) community. New Student Orientation Leaders
Orientation Leaders (OLs) play a critical part in helping new students make the most of their time at SAIC. OLs both welcome students and serve as a crucial resource for new students learning about SAIC. They actively participate in orientation programs and activities by leading small group discussions, answering student questions, and connecting new students to the many offices and services around campus.
The LeRoy Neiman Center Assistants
The LeRoy Neiman Center Assistants (NCAs) help with the day-to-day tasks of operating the LeRoy Neiman Center: maintaining the public spaces on the first and second floor, assisting with major campus events, directing students to the appropriate offices, and assisting with advertising and promoting campus events. NCAs also help maintain the bulletin boards on campus and will assist the Campus Life office in various administrative tasks.
Residence Life Leadership Opportunities
Office Assistants help with the day-to-day tasks of Residence Life: answering phone calls, assisting students with questions, creating advertisements, and making sure mail gets to students living in the halls. This position is a great introduction to SAIC and provides many students with personal and professional preparation to be successful students at SAIC.
Resident Advisors (RAs) work to create meaningful relationships with residents to help them adjust to community living within a diverse urban environment. They also understand and appreciate cultural and lifestyle differences, develop a sense of community responsibility, define educational and career goals, and enhance artistic skills.
Residence Life Summer Staff
Similar to the role RAs play during the academic year, the summer staff provides summer students and guests with a comfortable living and learning environment. The summer community in the residence halls includes many art-related conference groups, continuing students, and the Early College Program for high school students.
Multicultural Affairs Student Assistants
Multicultural Affairs Student Assistants are a highly collaborative team that supports the programming of the department. Multicultural Affairs Student Assistants work closely with Student Affinity Groups, organize heritage month events, and help facilitate the intersectional Multicultural Affairs Affinity Communities (MAAC) meetings. The Multicultural Affairs Student Assistants also support the maintenance and programming for the Cultural Oasis: A Space by and for students of color. Through this position, Student Assistants promote community-building and help foster an environment where different perspectives, identities, and experiences are heard and valued.
