We have pulled together a number of resources designed to give you a full perspective of your student's career at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). These are resources designed to assist students, parents, families, and friends in navigating SAIC.

SAIC Official Bulletin
The School of the Art Institute's official Bulletin provides students with important information about programs of study, academic departments and programs, academic support programs, co-curricular programs and rules, regulations and policies of the school. Students are encouraged to review this document on a regular basis, and you may find it helpful as you assist your student in planning their SAIC career.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a Federal privacy law that gives students certain rights with regard to their own education records, such as the right to inspect and review their own records. To protect a student's privacy, the law generally requires schools to ask for written consent from the student before disclosing personally identifiable information from that student’s records to others. However, FERPA does permit schools to disclose student information without consent under limited circumstances (referred to as exceptions). For example, student information may be disclosed as "directory information" or in response to a health or safety emergency.

Students on Leave of Absence
In order for a student to return to SAIC from an Administrative Leave of Absence, they must contact the office of Academic Advising and Student Success to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor and complete an Appeal for Reinstatement Form, which is reviewed by the Academic Review Board.
You can learn more about this on the Leave of Absence webpage.
