Study Abroad provides advising to students who are interested in participating in study trips or exchange programs with other colleges in the United States and abroad. Advisors work closely with faculty members to offer an exciting array of faculty-led study trips during the winter and summer interims and to assist students with their applications for study abroad at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's (SAIC) partner schools during the fall and spring semesters. SAIC maintains exchange agreements with approximately 15 schools internationally and Study Abroad serves as the advising center for incoming exchange students and scholars from all over the world. Additionally, SAIC is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD), and through AICAD’s mobility program undergraduates can study for a semester at a participating art and design school in the United States, Canada, or the Burren College of Art in Ireland. Through the Exchange and Mobility programs, tuition is paid directly to SAIC, and eligibility for all customary financial aid is maintained. Tuition is then waived at the host school.
Study abroad courses fulfill the undergraduate student 6-credit-hour off-campus study requirement. Courses that satisfy the off-campus requirement may also satisfy degree requirements for studio, Liberal Arts, and/or Art History, Theory, and Criticism credit and may be taken at any time during the sophomore, junior, or senior years.
