Professor Arnold J. Kemp Receives Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant
Arnold J. Kemp, professor of Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has been named as a recipient of this year’s Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant for his forthcoming article “Who is this black, queer curator? If you don’t remember it and do him, his last name is McShine.”
Kemp is one of 22 arts writers to be selected as the foundation’s 2020 award recipients. This year’s grantees, whose work spans across books, articles, and short-form writing, will receive awards of between $15,000 and $50,000 each, totaling $675,000.
According to Artforum, the program—which intends to preserve the practice of critical writing in relation to visual arts—has awarded roughly $9.3 million to more than 310 arts writers to date.
