Two School of the Art Institute of Chicago community members have been named 2023 United States Artists Fellows: alum Angelo Madsen Minax (BFA 2005) and Lecturer Luis Alvaro Sahagun Nuño. Filmmaker Minax’s multidisciplinary projects focus on collective histories, cultures, and kinship. His films have screened at Berlinale, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the New York Film Festival, among many more. Sahagun Nuño incorporates the spiritual practices of Curanderismo into his art making. His multimedia work explores personal histories, cultural resistance, and colonial disruption.

In 2023, United States Artists granted $50,000 in unrestricted funds to 45 artists working across the country.
