Harper’s Bazaar Spotlights Chicago's Arts Community Alongside Four SAIC Community Members

Professor Candida Alvarez, Stephanie and Bill Sick Professor of Fashion, Body and Garment Nick Cave, Theaster Gates (HON 2014), and Chair of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Board of Trustees Denise Gardner were recently featured in Harper’s Bazaar. The article covers Chicago’s artistic community, spotlighting artists who call the city home. In the article, Gates discussed his nonprofit Rebuild Foundation, Cave shared about his experience moving to Chicago to teach at SAIC, Gardner talked about advocating for inclusive exhibitions throughout her career, and Alvarez discussed the importance of place and how teaching at SAIC informed her practice. “Teaching gave me the opportunity to really observe my process, to give it a language,” Alvarez shared. “To have these amazing creative people surrounding you and being in conversation with you is a gift.”
