Alum Bassim Al-Shaker Featured in Borderless Magazine

Borderless Magazine speaks to painter Bassim Al-Shaker (MFA 2021) about his internationally recognized paintings, his upcoming group show at Zolla/Lieberman gallery, and his immigration experience from Iraq to the United States. Most of Al-Shaker’s paintings are centered around current conflicts in Iraq, such as Parliament Nightclub and his Halal series. In addition to being driven by the conflicts in his home country, Al-Shaker tells Borderless that his art is driven by his own life experiences and the revolution that “is already inside of [him].”
