Congratulations on your invitation to interview with SAIC! Below you will find information on the events planned for students throughout Interview Weekend. 

Departmental Interviews

The interview process will be conducted in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual options for students. Candidates will receive specific instructions on how to register and prepare for Interview Day from their department(s). If you need to contact your department, their information is listed at the bottom of this page. 

Graduate Student Mixer

Join us for a casual reception to meet other applicants across programs. Multiple interactive virtual spaces will be available to allow you to meet other interviewing students, current students, and faculty.

Interdisciplinary Events

Virtual Studio Visits

Friday, February 11th: 5:00 - 7:00pm CST
Join us on Zoom

Join us for a series of live virtual studio visits between current graduate students across departments, interviewing each other about their artistic practices and life at SAIC. These interdisciplinary conversations are an opportunity for you to learn more about the SAIC community, connect with current graduate students and fellow applicants, and break the ice prior to Interview Day. This event will include MFA students from Art and Technology Studies, Ceramics, Fashion, Film, Video, New Media & Animation, Performance, Printmedia, and Sound, showing their studio spaces and sharing their work. Five pairs of artists will each have a 20-minute conversation.

In-Between Interviews Lounge Rooms

Saturday, February 12:

  • Morning Lounge: 10:00am - 12:00pm CST
  • Afternoon Lounge: 2:00 - 4:00pm CST

Join us on Zoom

Come decompress and chat in a students-only virtual space on zoom before, after or in between interviewing, where current grads will be available for more casual conversations and most importantly to answer any questions that might linger. Topics of conversation can range between what it’s like to live in Chicago, and what the art scene is like here to a more in-depth look into departmental resources and faculty to take note of! Really this is a space for you to get an even more inside scoop on grad school at SAIC and make sure you get your questions answered to the best of our ability. Come hang out with us!

Saturday, February 12th:

  • A virtual tour of ATS facilities and resources will be available for access at any time.
  • 10:00am and 2:00pm CST: In-person tours available, starting in ATS Flex Space,  MacLean Building, Room 400
  • 10:00am - 3:00pm CST: Light Lab Show Open (in person) in the ATS Flex Space, MacLean Building, Room 400
  • 3:30 - 5:00pm CST: ATS Community Mixer: ATS welcome presentations and community introductions. This event can be attended virtually or in person. ATS Flex Space and Zoom.

Film, Video, New Media, & Animation

Friday, February 11th:

  • Current graduate students from a variety of departments (including FVNMA) will participate in a series of livestreamed conversations, featuring studio visits between artists of different disciplines, speaking with each other about their work and taking questions from the virtual audience.

Saturday, February 12th:

  • Virtual programming featuring both recorded videos showcasing facilities, resources, art, and artists around the School, and live video lounges for getting to know current graduate students and fellow interviewees.

New Arts Journalism

Saturday, February 12th:

  • 9:00 - 9:30am CST: Mandatory Departmental Presentation with Lori Waxman Join on Zoom.
  • 12:00 - 1:00pm CST: Virtual Grad Student Mixer: Join current NAJ students Priyanka and Parker to learn about SAIC’s campus; resources such as the radio station, TV station, and School newspaper that are of special interest to MANAJ degree-program students; and more. Join on Zoom.


Saturday, February 12th:

  • 8:30 - 9:30am CST: Introductions in Zoom with faculty, current grads and interviewees.
  • 9:40am – 5:30pm CST: Interviewees meet first year graduate students in Zoom

Visual Communication Design

Saturday, February 12th:

  • 12:00 noon CST: Candidates are invited to join departmental faculty and a few current graduate students for an informal Q&A session. The link to join will be shared with candidates by email and RSVPs are not required. Please join us!


Saturday, February 12th:

  • 12:00 - 12:50pm CST: Join a lunch-time gathering on Zoom to introduce faculty and current MFAW students.
  • 4:00 - 5:00pm CST: An informal, in-person meet and greet with MFAW faculty and students.
