Subversive Pleasures: Mapping the Problematic

Exhibitions

Friday, November 08 - Saturday, December 07

11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. CST

33 E. Washington St

SAIC Galleries will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wednesday, November 27 until Sunday, December 1. We will reopen on Monday, December 2.

This student exhibition of works that respond to artist and former SAIC professor Barbara DeGenevieve’s historic assignment prompts is an important component of the In Your Face: Barbara DeGenevieve, Artist & Educator project. Highlighting DeGenevieve’s ongoing relevance to the SAIC student body, this exhibition within an exhibition features recent work in a variety of media by 24 currently-enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. A faculty jury (professors Aimée Beaubien, Mark Jeffery, and Frédéric Moffett) selected these artworks from close to 100 submissions.

Please join us for a public reception Saturday, November 9 from 12:00–5:00 p.m.

We also invite visitors to join us for live performances and activations at the following times:
Maha Al-Zahrani: An Ode to Bidet on Saturday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m.
Star Castro & Suhmi Jang: Creature from The Black Lagoon on Saturday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m.
Rose Ansari: HOLD ME TIGHT on Monday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m.
