Traveling to Campus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued guidance for using transportation. No matter the mode of transportation, be diligent about practicing hand hygiene, social distancing, and wearing face coverings. Additionally, the CDC recommends that you travel with sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. For more details, visit the CDC’s website.

Trains or Buses

Stay up-to-date on changes to services and procedures

Avoid touching surfaces

  • Limit contact with frequently touched surfaces such as kiosks, touchscreens, fingerprint scanners, ticket machines, turnstiles, handrails, elevator buttons, and benches as much as possible.
  • Use touchless payment and no-touch trash cans and doors when available. Exchange cash or credit cards by placing them in a receipt tray or on the counter rather than by hand, if possible.

Practice social distancing

  • When possible, travel during non-peak hours when there are likely to be fewer people.
  • Follow social distancing guidelines by staying at least six feet away from people who are not from your household. This may include staying out of crowded spaces, ensuring there’s a row of seats between yourself and other riders, entering and exiting buses through the rear doors, and following social distancing instructions or physical guides offered by transit authorities.

Rideshare or Taxi

Avoid touching surfaces

  • Limit contact with surfaces frequently touched by passengers or drivers, such as the door frame and handles, windows, and other vehicle parts.
  • Don’t accept offers of free water bottles and avoid touching magazines or other items that may be provided for free to passengers.
  • Use touchless payment when available.

Practice social distancing

  • Limit the number of passengers in the vehicle to only those necessary.
  • Avoid pooled rides or rides where multiple passengers are picked up who are not in the same household.
  • Sit in the back seat in larger vehicles such as vans and buses so you can remain at least six feet away from the driver.

Improve ventilation

  • Ask the driver to improve the ventilation in the vehicle by opening the windows or setting the air ventilation or air conditioning on non-recirculation mode.

Parking

If you are visiting or will eventually be returning to work and teach on campus, the School is not in a position to cover parking fees; however, all faculty and staff are eligible to receive discounted parking at Millennium Garages, and those interested should contact payroll@artic.edu to complete the necessary forms. We also have an existing employee discount with SpotHero.
