Personal Statement

Art has been my constant companion throughout my life, and drawing, in particular, has always been at the heart of my creative practice. Whether I'm working in pencil, ink, or more experimental media, the act of drawing shapes my perspective and approach to every piece I create. It is not just a technique—it's a mindset, a way of seeing and understanding the world around me.

With a BFA from Art Center College of Design and an M.Ed. from Montana State University, my journey as an artist has been both a personal exploration and a professional commitment. Over the years, my work has found a home in numerous corporate and private collections across the globe, which I see as a testament to the enduring power of art to connect people across time and space. I approach every new project with the same enthusiasm and curiosity I had as a child, ever eager to explore new ways of making meaning through visual language.

As an educator, I have had the privilege of teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for over 30 years. As a Senior Lecturer, I strive to inspire my students to embrace their own creative potential and to think critically about the world around them. In addition to my work at the Art Institute, I teach at Flathead High School and Flathead Valley Community College, where I offer courses ranging from International Baccalaureate Visual Arts to Beginning Portraiture. I am passionate about fostering creativity in others and providing students with the tools they need to grow as both artists and individuals.

Living in Columbia Falls, MT, with my wife, Janice, I am deeply rooted in a community that continues to inspire my work. I am constantly reminded that art, at its best, is a shared experience—a dialogue between the artist, the viewer, and the world. Through my work and my teaching, I aim to encourage others to see the world with fresh eyes and to discover their own path through the transformative power of art. Thank you for sharing in my creative journey.
