Computer Resources & Information Technologies: Laptop Recommendation
2017–18 Laptop Recommendation and Orientation Information
The 2017-18 SAIC recommended model is an Apple MacBook Pro Retina 13" 3.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Touch Bar and Touch ID, 512GB PCIe-based flash storage, 8 GB memory, and three-year AppleCare+ for Mac. PLEASE NOTE: If students believe that they may require 16 GB of memory or larger Storage for their laptop in the future, they should make the customization at the time of purchase. An Apple laptop is non-upgradable.
For your new laptop to receive the full support from CRIT, all student's Apple MacBook Pros need to meet or exceed minimum specifications.
You can purchase your laptop through any Apple Store, online through the Apple Store for Education, or any Apple Authorized retailer.
PLEASE NOTE: The 12-inch MacBook (early 2015) does NOT meet SAIC's minimum laptop requirement. Tablet computers, netbooks, Chromebooks, etc. that cannot run a full Macintosh Operating System and cannot install regular software will not be adequate. PC laptops are not supported by CRIT.
To ensure that you receive an educational discount along with the correct equipment and three-year AppleCare Protection Plan, you should purchase the recommended model at the Apple Store. Make sure to take your SAIC ID (or other proof of enrollment) so you can receive the special student pricing.
Once you have your laptop, you will need to attend our brief Laptop Setup orientation session, which will be held during New Student Orientation. To prepare for the session, please make sure your laptop is fully charged, and you have activated your ARTIC Account.
If You Already Own a Laptop from the Apple Store or Any Other Source
Once your laptop has been approved, you will need to attend our Laptop Setup orientation session, which will be held during the New Student Orientation.
To prepare for the session, please make sure your laptop is fully charged, and you have activated your ARTIC Account.
