Becoming Part of SAIC

So how does one apply to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC)? Even though we are innovative, our application methods are probably similar to ones you’ve encountered before. You will need to fill out an application, and yes, we are interested in seeing your standardized test scores, transcripts, and letters of recommendation.

Because this is an art and design school, you are also going to need to submit a portfolio of your best and most recent work—work that will give us a sense of you, your interests, and your willingness to explore, experiment, and think beyond technical art and design skills. We want to see the thinking behind the making.

We also want to meet with you and assist you through this process. We invite you to attend our SAIC Days and National Portfolio Days and visit us on campus to have the opportunity to engage with our representatives about SAIC, your work, and our curriculum and get a better sense of what it’s like to be a SAIC student.
