Professor Romi Crawford’s Latest Collaboration Profiled by Chicago Reader

School of the Art Institute of Chicago Professor in Visual and Critical Studies Romi Crawford collaborated with filmmaker John O’Hagan for Chicago Film Archives and Chicago Transit Authority’s we love. The public film installation, now on view through March, was profiled by Chicago Reader.

Located at the Cicero Green Line Station, we love is a 48-minute film installation projected 24 hours a day on the station’s mezzanine. The work gathers archival footage of home movies by Chicago residents. The opening segment made by Crawford and O’Hagan depicts gestures of love and care that were found repeated across various videos, and sets the tone for the installation.

Finding commonalities of affection across time and space, the work turns private footage to the public to reflect a picture of Chicago’s community.
