The School of the Art Institute of Chicago Associate Professor in Printmedia jina valentine opened up about community, care, and education in the latest Oral History Project (OHP) by BOMB Magazine. Begun in 2014, OHP publishes longform interviews with artists of the African diaspora.

jina valentine is a mother, educator, and artist. valentine’s artistic interests focus on data visualization, archives, and narratives. In the deeply personal oral history, valentine discusses her suburban upbringing, the impact of Black teachers and mentors, and how “checking in is critical to the work to be done.”
