Spirit Sister2'h, cast bronzeAs long as I can remember, when inquiring about my aunts in the South during the early 20th century, the stock answer my father had was, "They were too pretty to live." I felt he referred to their mixed blood and he also implied that one or two of them passed for white. But there was always a hint of tragedy when he spoke of them. Of course he was too young to know the entire truth. This piece is my depiction of a lovely schoolmarm-type who floats through time in a ghostlike manner. Her style in dress and her body gesture seem to attempt to communicate with those of us who came after her. |
