Angel with Child

The mother takes long, bold strides with a feeling of assurance, knowing where she is going. She gently cradles her scion with powerful, yet tender hands.

She is a descendant of strong Southern women, passing on the traits she herself had inherited of vitality and caring. Many of her ancestors' babies were taken from them on slave blocks—their chances of keeping and raising their own children was slim. She and her child are our future, growing out of the roots from the red clay beneath her feet.
