Personal Statement
Cynthia Pelayo is researcher, writer, publisher, and the editor of Burial Day Books. Her first novel, Santa Muerte (Post Mortem Press, 2012) is an International Latino Book Award winner in the category of Young Adult Fiction. Pelayo's poetry and fiction primarily explore elements of superstition, folklore, legend, and myth. Her thesis, El Corazon y La Muerte, wove together Latin American folktales primarily communicated through oral traditions. She is at work on her second novel and poetry collection due out in 2016.
