Personal Statement
Amy Mall is a Chicago based interdisciplinary artist, educator, gardener, and facilitator. She grew up in Chicago and the Indian Himalayas. Rooted in craft practices, she draws out and dialogues with the stories embodied in the materials and processes found in her environments. Learning from, collaborating with and documenting the work of artisans, and farmers, in India and the United States has been a key part of her creative work. Amy engages with art making as a relational learning practice. For more than two decades she has worked in schools, parks, gardens and farms; partnering with community groups and organizations. These endeavours have led to co-created storytelling, art, craft and gardening experiences that explore relationships to ecologies, one another, and ourselves. Her art work blends personal narratives of intimacy, care and domestic life together the landscapes that have shaped her imagination and which she carries with her.
