3Arts has announced [15] this year’s 3Arts Awards: grants designed to uplift Chicago-based “women artists, artists of color, and Deaf and disabled artists.” The awards are separated into three categories—3Arts Awards [16], Next Level/Spare Room Awards [17], and Make a Wave [18]—which combined name more than 20 School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) community members as recipients.

SAIC community members populate all three grant categories. In the 3Arts Awards category, 3Arts’s main award category, Derrick Woods-Morrow (MFA 2016) and Associate Professor Andres L. Hernandez (MA 2004) received $30,000 awards.

In the Next Level/Spare Room Awards category, three women visual artists were chosen out of a pool of past 3Arts Award winners to receive a grant of $50,000, with Associate Professor Tirtza Even and Associate Professor, Adj. Aram Han Sifuentes (MFA 2013) named as two of the three recipients.

The Make a Wave category invites previous 3Arts Awards recipients to select artists to receive a surprise grant of $4,000, and many SAIC community members were also honored in this category.

Congratulations to all SAIC community members who received a 3Arts award this year.
