Chicago’s planning department established the city’s first Committee on Design, a group of 24 urban design professionals who will advise the city and developers on innovative, attractive, and cost-effective elements. Among the committee members are Stephanie and Bill Sick Professor of Fashion, Body and Garment Nick Cave and honorary degree recipients Jeanne Gang (HON 2013) and Theaster Gates (HON 2014). Commissioner Maurice Cox called the Committee on Design “truly an all-star cast that will offer invaluable, implementable, and realistic recommendations involving design excellence and related development concerns that will lead to better projects and improved neighborhoods. Its contributions will be vital to the long-term neighborhood vitality, resilience, and livability, especially as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic."
