Works by Professor and F.H. Sellers Chair in Painting Candida Alvarez and Lecturer Edra Soto (MFA 2000) are featured in No existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibition, which was spotlighted in the New York Times, is one of the first large-scale surveys of contemporary Puerto Rican art in a leading US museum in nearly 50 years. The show includes two-sided landscape paintings by Alvarez and Soto's Graft, a sculptural wall that includes viewfinder photos of Puerto Rico after the hurricane. The exhibition is open until April 23, 2023.
