Auditing a Class

SAIC has revised its audit policy for currently enrolled students whose spring 2021 semesters were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning in the spring 2022 semester, undergraduate students entering their second, third, or fourth years in fall 2021 and second-year graduate students may audit six credits worth of courses either during their enrollment or within two years of graduation.

Enrollment in undergraduate- or graduate-level courses on a non-credit (Audit) basis by enrolled, degree-seeking students is permitted under the following circumstances:

  • The student is in Good Academic Standing
  • Undergraduate students must have at least 30 credits completed
  • The instructor of the course is in agreement with the individual student about the scope of their participation in the course while enrolled as an auditor AND;
  • There is an open seat available in the course at the conclusion of the Add/Drop period for the semester, students cannot enroll prior to the end off Add/Drop

Enrollment in undergraduate- or graduate-level courses on a non-credit (Audit) basis by graduated students is permitted under the following circumstances:

  • Degree must be conferred
  • The instructor of the course is in agreement with the individual student about the scope of their participation in the course while enrolled as an auditor AND;
  • There is an open seat available in the course at the conclusion of the Add/Drop period for the semester

Both graduate and undergraduate students can be enrolled to audit a class* at either the graduate or undergraduate level, provided the class meets the above conditions for auditing. Questions about SAIC's Audit Policy should be directed toward the Associate Deans in the Office of the Dean of Faculty.

*Graduated international students wishing to audit a course must be in the process of completing Optional Practical Training (OPT) in order to be eligible to audit.
