COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing

SAIC will require COVID-19 vaccines for students, faculty, and staff. This is in compliance with Governor JB Pritzker’s mandate requiring that all students and employees at higher education institutions be vaccinated. Medical and religious exemptions will be accommodated.

A person is considered fully vaccinated when they are two weeks or more beyond the receipt of their second dose in a two-dose vaccine or two weeks or more beyond the receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine.

For students: the September 30 deadline has passed. If you have not submitted proof of vaccination and have not received a medical or religious exemption, you may no longer access campus (including the museum). If you have received a medical or religious exemption, you are required by Illinois law to submit to weekly testing.

For faculty and staff: the September 15 deadline has passed. If you have not submitted your proof of vaccination, even if you have received a medical or religious exemption, you are required by Illinois law to submit to weekly testing.

To comply with State of Illinois law, only the following may serve as proof that you have received a COVID-19 vaccine:

  • A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 record card;
  • Documentation of vaccination from a health care provider; or
  • State immunization records.

International students should visit Health Services for more information.

For students, proof of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as other required vaccines, can be uploaded to the Health Services Patient Portal. Here you’ll find more details. International students should visit Health Services for more information.

Faculty and staff should have received an email with the subject, “One or more tasks are pending your action” from Human Resources containing a link to submit your documentation. Click here for detailed instructions and answers to technical questions. If you did not receive the email or need it to be resent, please email ask_hr@saic.edu

Employees who are on leave did not receive an email link to upload their proof of vaccination. If you want access to campus, including the museum, while you are on leave, please reach out to ask_HR@saic.edu, and HR will send an email with the link to upload your proof of vaccination.

Per Governor Pritzker’s mandate, all unvaccinated students and employees—even those with medical and religious exemptions—must submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test at least once per week. Click here for details on the timeline and process.

To protect the health and safety of our community, if you do not test by 3:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday of each week, you will not have access to campus starting on Thursday morning. If you are an employee, you will be placed on an unpaid leave of absence, during which you will not be permitted to use any earned and available PTO and/or Chicago Sick Time. You may regain access to campus after you test the following week.

On August 26, Governor JB Pritzker announced a mandate requiring that all students and employees at higher education institutions be vaccinated after SAIC initiated its attestation process for employees. The governor’s new executive order requires us to go beyond the attestation we required for faculty and staff, and all employees will now need to provide proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination for employees was due by September 15. Click here for more details.

Because an attestation for faculty and staff is also required by SAIC, if you haven’t already submitted your attestation, you must take the following steps:

  • Log in to Self-Service
  • Click on Employee Self-Service
  • Click on SAIC COVID Vax Attestation

If you are a student, you do not have to provide an attestation. If you’ve already provided proof of vaccination, you do not have to do anything further
