Using several decades of materials found in the John M. Flaxman Library, this exhibition considers what it means to collect, preserve, and revisit the memories of others. We can never fully understand the connections the original owners may have had to these objects. Yet, each holds emotional significance - either explicitly or through projections from our own lived experiences. By redacting, remixing, and obscuring, we can consider new relationships between objects and manufacture new memories without the original owner’s context.

This exhibition is following in the footsteps of Alexis Petroff, who originally started collecting these found items, and other Flaxman staff who have presented their curated selections since.

Please note the library may have evolving visitor policies as SAIC's Make Together protocols change. Before planning your visit to the exhibit, please review our Visit Us page for the most up-to-date library protocols.
