An Opportunity to Break Dawn Together is an event with a soft mission to practice recognizing the organisms and Earth around us. Many of us have moments of appreciation for critters and sky unconsciously or effortlessly throughout the day. These moments can take the form of a moment while riding the bus to watch a bird carry trash or a kid’s nose drip snot. These moments remind us that we are all interconnected. These moments of acknowledgment are often interrupted by internal dialogues or by a task at hand, this event is intended to provide both space and time to be uninterrupted.

At the start of the event, we will simulate the breaking of dawn which will gradually cast light onto a spread of items for attendees to explore at their leisure. The choice to attend this event is a conscious commitment to spend an hour reflecting on the ecosystems we are a part of. Attendees may use this event as a time to consider ecosystems as networks that we are a part of, but not the center of, or simply sit, close their eyes, and listen. For an hour, everyone is welcome to enjoy a biodiverse sampling of the Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection including objects, zines, audio recordings, and books.
