The holographic medium was first invented in 1948. Since then, the hologram has entered the cultural imagination through movies such as Star Wars, which included holographic messages carried across the galaxy, and events like Tupac Shakur's posthumous "performance" at Coachella in 2012. But do these cultural touchstones represent what a hologram is?
In this exhibition you will be able to see artwork by SAIC students working with laser-recorded photopolymer holograms, and digital holograms, created in collaboration with the Lithuania-based holography lab Geola. These works address the medium of holography, both on its own terms and through interdisciplinary practice.
