In this 4-session workshop, students will learn about traditional indigo dyeing, quilting techniques, and how they relate to Black histories in America and beyond. This quilting class will use recycled denim materials to learn about its relevance to Chicago’s African American Westside identity. Student will work hand-in-hand with Fashion designers Michael White (from North Lawndale), Amanda Harth (SAIC Tower Artist in Residence) and fiber artist Alexandria Eregbu (Garfield Park), to create two unique collaborative denim and indigo dyed quilts that highlight each of the participant’s relationship to the Westside.
