How do practices of land acknowledgment that honor deep historical connection of Indigenous peoples to colonially settled territories take shape? The converging activism of Indigenous rights and environmental justice movements over the Keystone XL pipeline have brought more attention to the long-running struggles for recognition, land, and promised rights, of native tribes. As part of Earthly Observatory, this event brings together artists, scholars, curators, and activists to critically examine the intersections of art, activism, place, and identity.
Participants:
• Artist Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds
• Dr. John Low (OSU Newark Earthworks Center)
• SAIC’s ARC Land Acknowledgment Subcommittee
• Earthly Observatory curators Giovanni Aloi and Andrew S. Yang.
