Academics During Quarantine or Isolation
Students should continue to work remotely for their classes while in quarantine or isolation unless they are too sick to do so. The case management team will notify instructors of modified in-person classes that a student in quarantine or isolation will not be attending in-person classes. Students should also contact instructors of modified in-person classes to discuss how they can remain active in the class while not attending. Any absence from in-person class activity due to illness, any symptoms of illness, or precautionary self-quarantine will be excused. This means that students will not face academic penalty for such absences, and instead, faculty will provide students with alternative work or ways to engage with the class while they are out.

Support During Quarantine or Isolation
If you are asked to isolate or quarantine, and you live in a residence hall, an SAIC staff member will provide you with their contact information should you need additional assistance.
During a quarantine or isolation period, we recommend utilizing a grocery delivery service such as Amazon Fresh, Shipt, or Instacart. Many grocery stores or pharmacies will let you order directly from them for delivery as well.
COVID-19 Related Absences for Student Employees
Student employees who are identified as a close contact or positive case (as defined by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH)) by the SAIC Case Management Team or CDPH should not come to work. If symptoms develop while on the job, student employees must leave campus immediately and notify their supervisors and SAIC’s Health Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or 312.499.4288.
SAIC’s Case Management Team will confirm the student's absence with their supervisors. The student employee will be advised by the Case Management Team on next steps and will be asked to take a COVID-19 test, if needed. Student employees will not be permitted to return to work while awaiting test results or during their period of self-quarantine/isolation. A Case Management Team representative will inform the student employee and their supervisors when it is safe for them to return to campus.
Student employees will be paid for scheduled hours they are unable to work due to COVID-19 related absences. Absences due to COVID-19 related illness or exposure will be recorded by supervisors as “Student Covid Pay” in ARTICtime and will not be counted against accrued Paid Sick Leave hours.
"Student Covid Pay" hours may not be used for the 14-day self-quarantine period required by Chicago’s Emergency Travel Order for individuals returning to Chicago from abroad or from states experiencing a surge in new COVID-19 cases as designated on the Emergency Travel Order list. Student employees may use any accrued Paid Sick Leave hours as available if they wish.
