Andrea Chung explores themes of labor and materials and their relationships with postcolonial countries. Chung is interested in the imbued histories that materials carry and how they also carry with them the stories of human transmission and the long lasting effects of colonialism on tropical ‘post-colonial’ societies such as the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean. She received a BFA at Parsons School of Design and a MFA at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Chung has participated in several residencies including the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Headlands, Vermont Studio Center, Kohler Arts and Industry and the Joan Mitchell Center.
