Photographer and visual artist Stephanie Schwiederek (American, b. 1990) grew up in a motel in the town of Pine Brook, part of Montville Township, New Jersey. The motel she grew up in was a hive of prostitution, drugs and violence. Much of her work deals with notions of trauma, identity, class, and the family dynamics in peril. She is interested in the borderline where violence and intimacy; dysfunction and acceptance; resignation and resilience meet. She is currently working on her Masters of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago after completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 2018.
