My name is María Emilia Escudero, or simply ‘Astro,’ and I am a second year photography MFA from Quito, Ecuador. My work investigates how Latin American colonial archives and consumer products have saturated our imaginations with only one dimension of ourselves. Through image and installation, I am currently questioning historical omissions revolving around issues of reproductive and sexual violence. I believe that our colonial past and present can be reconsidered by materializing the absent and making space for the silenced.
