In my work I'm trying to trace a home or homeland by looking for a familiar landscape, plants that remind me of a house or vice versa that remind me that I will probably never belong to a place like the Sabra. The sabra is an immigrant plant in Israel but, on the other hand, is a symbol of roots and belonging, originated in Central America and came with colonialism in the Middle East.
This research came after I had trouble answering a simple question "Where am I from?" In Israel, I am from Russia, but here in Chicago, I am from Israel.
